John 5: 39-40
May 24, 2026 - Sunday Morning Service

Joh 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in
them ye think ye have eternal life: and
they are they which testify of me.

Joh 5:40 And ye will not come to me,
that ye might have life.

Why wouldn’t they come?

No Comprehension

Joh 1:4 In him was life; and the life
was the light of men.

Joh 1:5 And the light shineth in
darkness; and the darkness
comprehended it not.

Evil Deeds

Joh_3:19 And this is the
condemnation, that light is come
into the world, and men loved
darkness rather than light,
because their deeds were evil.

They Didn’t Believe he was the
Son of God

Joh_5:18 Therefore the Jews sought
the more to kill him, because he not
only had broken the sabbath, but said
also that God was his Father, making
himself equal with God.

What we Know!!!

1Jn 5:20 And we know that the Son
of God is come, and hath given us an
understanding, that we may know
him that is true, and we are in him
that is true, even in his Son Jesus
Christ. This is the true God, and
eternal life.

Joh 8:58 Jesus said unto them,
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before
Abraham was, I am.

Joh 8:59 Then took they up stones to
cast at him: but Jesus hid himself,
and went out of the temple, going
through the midst of them, and so
passed by.

Vexation in Sodom

There is Validity in Truth

Gen 14:14 And when Abram heard
that his brother was taken captive, he
armed his trained servants, born in
his own house, three hundred and
eighteen, and pursued them unto
Dan.

Gen 14:15 And he divided
himself against them, he and his
servants, by night, and smote
them, and pursued them unto
Hobah, which is on the left hand
of Damascus.

Gen 14:16 And he brought back all the
goods, and also brought again his
brother Lot, and his goods, and the
women also, and the people.

Gen 14:17 And the king of Sodom went
out to meet him after his return from the
slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the
kings that were with him, at the valley of
Shaveh, which is the king's dale.

Gen 14:18 And Melchizedek king of
Salem brought forth bread and wine:
and he was the priest of the most
high God.

Gen 14:19 And he blessed him, and
said, Blessed be Abram of the most
high God, possessor of heaven and
earth:

Gen 14:20 And blessed be the most
high God, which hath delivered thine
enemies into thy hand. And he gave
him tithes of all.

Gen 14:21 And the king of Sodom
said unto Abram, Give me the
persons, and take the goods to
thyself.

There is Vanity and Vexation in Sodom

Gen 14:22 And Abram said to the king
of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto
the LORD, the most high God, the
possessor of heaven and earth,

Gen 14:23 That I will not take from a
thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I
will not take any thing that is thine, lest
thou shouldest say, I have made Abram
rich:

There is Victory in Jesus

Heb 7:1 For this Melchisedec, king of
Salem, priest of the most high God,
who met Abraham returning from the
slaughter of the kings, and blessed
him;

Heb 7:2 To whom also Abraham
gave a tenth part of all; first being by
interpretation King of righteousness,
and after that also King of Salem,
which is, King of peace;

Heb 7:3 Without father, without
mother, without descent, having
neither beginning of days, nor end of
life; but made like unto the Son of
God; abideth a priest continually.

Heb 7:4 Now consider how great this
man was, unto whom even the
patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of
the spoils.

There Is victory in Jesus

Mat 26:63 But Jesus held his
peace. And the high priest
answered and said unto him, I
adjure thee by the living God,
that thou tell us whether thou be
the Christ, the Son of God.

Mat 26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou
hast said: nevertheless I say unto you,
Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man
sitting on the right hand of power, and
coming in the clouds of heaven.

Mat 26:65 Then the high priest rent his
clothes, saying, He hath spoken
blasphemy; what further need have we of
witnesses? behold, now ye have heard
his blasphemy.
